Happy Halloween everybody…I feel kinda bad today because we are going to a trunk or treat at our church tonight which means our house will be dark and candy-less for all those trick ‘r’ treaters!!! Yep, we are gonna be that house. My little cheerleader and pumpkin are excited to eat candy. (In all fairness, my pumpkin gets excited to eat lint on the floor and doesn’t actually know she is getting candy). So Halloween confessional: I have a secret desire to be involved in a THRILLER FLASH MOB. Sad, I know. They just look so fun and I’m a huge Michael Jackson of the 80’s fan. (You have to clarify that because the several reincarnations of Michael Jackson might as well be several different artists). I love the THRILLER album. When I was A’s age, I used to run around singing “Bee Jean” (Billy Jean). So for all of you who want to be in my flash mob fantasy…here’s a video to practice...Read More
So typically the colors that come to mind when talking about Halloween are ORANGE and BLACK. Orange jack-o-lanterns, black cats, but what about GREEN?? Everything is green these days…EVERYTHING. You even get dirty looks at the grocery store if you opt out of the reusable bags and ask for plastic (but seriously…they are so much easier to carry than paper and I barely remember to bring my LIST half the time, let alone remember to bring bags.) I may be committing the biggest social sin imaginable by admitting this…but I am so not GREEN…not at all. I really don’t care about saving trees or animals or how much CO2 is in the air…I have no need to know my carbon footprint. I don’t recycle. I’m totally wasteful. And I never donate to any animal causes. I am so un-GREEN, I’m RED!!! I know…I know…I just don’t see the benefit, sorry:( In spite of that, there is one area where I am VERY GREEN… CRAFTS!!! I LOVE recycling in crafts. There is something beautiful to me about taking ordinary objects, trash, or undesirable things and re-purposing them to be something new and fresh and completely usable. There is so much creativity in making a completely random object into a whole new random object:) Also being GREEN in crafts is frugal…Crafting can be spendy, especially when you try to be unique...Read More

So, Halloween is in a week and I am not even close to being ready. My to-do list just keeps getting longer and longer and I honestly think that the hours in a day shrink around holidays!!! The good news is I DO have my kids Halloween costumes done…well, purchased. Normally, I would have slaved over their costumes, sewing, decorating and making them totally hand made, but A wanted to be a cheerleader and they sell ADORABLE authentic cheerleader outfits. I knew they would look way better than anything I could sew, soooo I consented to purchase a Oklahoma Cheer Outfit (Boomer Sooner). I insisted, however, that I was going to make E’s costume…it being her first Halloween and everything. I decided on Piglet from Winnie the Pooh and bought a pattern for a cute little pillow case style dress that I thought could be modified nicely into a piglet costume. I was set to go pick out the fabric, on a day that ended up being one of THOSE days. You know the days you wish you really had just pulled the covers up over your head and gone back to bed. So I’m frantically trying to at least end the day with the same number of items on my list that I started (instead of the about 10 extra things that were added!!!) when my mom called....Read More
