Movie Night Party Ideas

I’m super excited to share this party. I recently hosted/styled a co-ed baby shower for my sweet friends Koby and Carly and their soon-to-be-joining-the-world baby girl Madelyn.

This party was wicked fun to plan and one of the most un-baby shower baby showers I have ever seen.  Check it out…

This was such a fun party theme.  It was full of ideas that were specifically centered around the movie experience. From markee letters to a concession stand, there is a little bit for everyone.

Here is the fun popcorn bar.

Photo booth props also make great decor…just saying.

Movie Night Party Theme

The theme for the shower was Movie Night.  I planned the evening to be fun and un-girly for the dad to be and all the menfolk to feel at ease and also be a unique way of celebrating sweet little Madelyn.

Koby and Carly met in high school when they were both working at a movie theater too, so it was the perfect theme for their shower.

Here is the Juno themed adorable parents to be!  Aren’t they cute?

Movie Night Party Decorations

The decorations for a movie night party pretty much center around the food…since when you go to a movie, you grab some sweet treats to enjoy while you watch it, right?

I set up a concession stand, a popcorn car, a dessert table, and the photo booth was paparazzi themed!

IMG_7540

Simple favor bags with cute tags can be filled with any treat to send home with your guests.  Simple and budget friendly.

IMG_7380

A fun ceramic popcorn bowl is great for a popcorn bar as well.

IMG_7451

For the welcome sign, simple fabric was wrapped around a foam wreath. Cute and simple to DIY.

IMG_7462

The printables on the dessert table were cute and definitely took the party to the next level.  You can grab these at the bottom of this post.

IMG_7637

Of course…don’t forget to insta tag your pictures!

IMG_7564

Markee letters and a fabric curtain instantly create a vintage theater feel.  Cute, right?

IMG_7627

Markee Name Sign

The markee letters were homemade…and a lot of work.  Seriously…just buy them

IMG_7638

My wonderful husband created this custom marque sign for the backdrop and it was hands down my favorite element of the party.

IMG_7484

We also had a backyard movie screen on which we watched Back to the Future.  It was awesome!

Movie Night Food + Desserts

Now let’s talk about the food…

We served popcorn and candy, cake pops, mini cookies, cupcakes, and traditional movie theater food: nachos, hot dogs, and soda pop.

IMG_7514

Concessions

The concessions stand was full of candy and treats to enjoy.  The printable wraps really made these pop!

IMG_7529

Even little candy can be displayed in jars.  So many possibilities.

IMG_7524

Here are the fun candy wraps too.  Don’t they make the candy boxes look awesome sauce??

IMG_7527

Movie Popcorn

Popcorn is a must for a movie night party.  I mean it IS the most iconic movie treat, right?!

IMG_7552

To dress up the popcorn boxes, I used tags and clothes pinned stars.  It was perfection.

IMG_7522

Here are those clothes pinned stars again….

Drinks

Water bottles, soda and lemonade were also served.

IMG_7616

Cookies

Fun custom mini cookies were displayed in glass jars.  These were delicious and adorable.

IMG_7513

Adding a tag to the jar is a great way to give it a “pop”!

IMG_7505

Cupcakes

Of course, movie themed cupcakes rounded out the dessert table.  So much fun!

IMG_7598

You can never have too many stars.

IMG_7597

The movie reel fondant was one of my favorites as well.

IMG_7602

Cake Pops

Gorgeous cake pops rounded out the party dessert table.  Delicious and adorable!

These were also displayed with the star cookies for a fun color change.

Movie Night Photo Booth Tutorial

Movie Night Party: Photo Booth Tutorial.  Today I’m sharing the details of the fun movie night photo booth from our Movie Night Baby Shower!

Part of the fun of the shower was the costumes…everyone dressed as a movie character or celebrity.  We had everything from Ariel, the Mermaid to Squints from the Sandlot!  You’re killing me smalls!!! Photo Booth Pic

So since this baby shower was Movie Night themed, I thought it was only fitting to have a “Paparazzi” themed photo booth stocked with disguises and famous movie quotes to get all those ridiculously fun party photos taken.

Photo boothes are super fun ways to express a little personality and get pictures of your guests without having to walk around with your camera glued to your face all throughout the party. Plus, they are pretty fun!! IMG_4316

How to make a Photo Booth

Photo booths are pretty simple.  The basics for a photo booth are some sort of fun background, and of course some fun props to take pictures with.

IMG_7413

For this photo booth backdrop, I hung a piece of pvc pipe from the ceiling with fishing line and scotch taped long pieces of streamers to the pipe for a wavy, colorful design.

IMG_7412

I alternated plain streamers with streamers I had sewn (like I did here in my Mermaid Party).

Sewing streamers is really easy. Using a sewing machine, simply sew in a straight line down the middle of the streamer.

IMG_4328

You can push the streamer in chunks for a more gathered look, or just straight sew for a ruffled appearance.  It’s great to to let your kids help, since its almost impossible to mess up!!

My 4 year old got a huge kick out of working the pedal of my sewing machine.

To help make sure we got to see all those fun pics, I also made a sign encouraging people to use the party approved hashtag on their photos.  Awesome sauce!!
